Deputy Director of Water Resources
Department of Public Works
Exempt,  Full-time          Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 

JOB SUMMARY
Seeking an experienced professional with a proven passion and record of accomplishment in environmental leadership. Responsible for administering all activities of the Water Resources teams including short- and long-range planning, development, and capital program implementation. Provide leadership, direction, and oversight of the City's stormwater, drinking water, and wastewater infrastructure and teams. Responsible for capital project management and coordination with the Deputy Director of Capital Projects in the development of the Capital Improvement Plan in these three areas. This position is part of the management team in the department of Public Works.

QUALIFICATIONS
The typical candidate will possess the equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental sciences, engineering, or other water quality-related field, and at least eight (8) years progressively responsible professional experience involving water quality, engineering, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current or expired certifications or licenses that show extensive knowledge and fluency in any one or a combination of the fields of oversight is highly desired, including those related to water, wastewater, stormwater, environmental stewardship, or natural resources.  See job description for more.

Zoning Administrative Officer
Department of Planning & Zoning

The City of South Burlington seeks an energetic, team oriented, and experienced individual with the highest ethical standards and integrity to fill the position of Zoning Administrative Officer within the Department of Planning & Zoning.

 The Zoning Administrative Officer will be joining a dedicated team of five that emphasizes problem-solving and works in a highly team-oriented environment, responsible for permitting and enforcing the City’s Land Development Regulations.

 SUMMARY OF POSITION: This position serves as the City’s lead staff person in the review, issuance, administration, and enforcement of zoning, sign and related permitting. Work is performed in close coordination with the Director of Planning & Zoning, Development Review Board, and staff throughout the City.

 The Zoning Administrative Officer pays a key role in implementing important policies on land use, housing, economic activity, and environmental protection. 

Effective communication, exceptional organization skills, ability to work in a digital environment, and ability to operate in a regulatory environment are critical traits of the position. The position includes frequent interaction with applicants, residents, developers, and staff peers. The Zoning Administrative Officer has the authority and responsibility for interpretation of the City’s Land Development Regulations, with decisions being legally appealable. As a result, accuracy and problem solving are key characteristics.

The South Burlington Public Library is a new building with a large children’s area. We are seeking a Children’s Assistant with energy and enthusiasm who is willing to learn. The Assistant will participate in programs, services and collection development for children 0-14 and their families - new ideas welcome! They will work three out of four Saturdays and two evenings. They will sometimes be responsible for the children’s area. Career Firefighter(s)
Fire Department
Non-exempt, union, full-time

Job Summary and Essential Functions:

Performs fire suppression, emergency medical services operations, hazardous materials mitigation, special operations / technical rescue and fire prevention. Performs maintenance on vehicles, equipment and the fire station. Has knowledge of the National Incident Management System.

  1. Works under the general direction of the Shift Commander or designee to support the efforts and goals of the Fire Department in accordance with departmental rules and regulations.
  2. Performs firefighting activities utilizing fire hoses, heavy stream appliances, extinguishers and ladders and ventilates burning buildings. Is required to wear and use Self Contained Breathing Apparatus to enter extremely hazardous environments and performs search and rescue procedures to evacuate and rescue persons in danger.
  3. Administers emergency medical services and coordinates transport of sick and injured persons. Obtain vital signs, semi-auto defibrillation; patient assessments and other related patient care tasks in conjunction with state approved guidelines.
  4. Performs hazardous materials mitigation at the certified Operations level. Performs Technical Rescues requiring certification in the areas of advanced vehicle extrication, rope rescue operations, confined space rescue operations and cold-water rescue.
  5. Performs daily emergency apparatus and equipment inspections to include minor maintenance and repairs, apparatus and equipment tests, to ensure proper service of all equipment. Conducts daily routine station maintenance in accordance with the established schedule as well as other assigned duties.
  6. Assists the company officer with daily record keeping activities to include computer-based fire and medical reporting systems.
  7. Participates in commercial building inspections in conjunction with the City of South Burlington Liquor License Program. Performs residential building familiarization inspections in accordance with the fire prevention code. Places findings of inspections in written inspection reports.
  8. Participates in shift training and may assume the role of instructor and develop training materials.
